Extraordinary charity runner, Dean Godwyn (pictured), who lives with spina bifida, arrived home in last place in the 2013 Virgin Active London Marathon after twelve hours on the move. Dean, who set out on his task to fundraise for Shine, the charity working to support everyone affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus, and has so far raised over £10k – DONATE!
By the time most of the 36,000 runners and 700,000 spectators were home with their feet up, Dean was still gradually overcoming the pain of every footstep to make it to the end – regardless of how long it might take, and the fact that the fanfare of the finish line had long been removed.

As identified within the Equality Act 2010 we all have a duty to:
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act.
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
- Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
Thus, ensuring everyone, able bodied or not, receives a fair and equal reward for completing the London Marathon, is a step in the direction the aforementioned Act aims to lead us in.
