GB U23 Wheelchair Basketball Team claim place in World’s top four! @BritWheelBBall

GB U23 in action against Australia

Great Britain’s U23 Wheelchair Basketball Team claimed a place in the World’s top four after battling their way to the bronze medal game at the World Championships 2013 in Adana, Turkey (7th September – 14th September).

Although there was heartbreak for the GB U23 Team as they were edged out in the final seconds of their Bronze medal match against Australia, losing by just one basket, they still matched the best ever finish of a British team in the competition.

The impressive performances from Great Britain, coming on the back of the incredible support that The Lord’s Taverners has provided to junior wheelchair basketballers over the past five years, saw the team cement the nation’s position as a current and future world force.

GB U23’s Captain, Richard Sargent said, “It was heart breaking to lose by just one basket for the second time in my international career. However we matched the best success of any other GB U23 team by coming 4th in the World, I’m so proud of all the team and it was a pleasure captaining them throughout the tournament.

“The support we received from back home was fantastic and really pushed us, we are just sorry we couldn’t bring home that medal for everyone.”
